Are you constantly trying to pinpoint why you are receiving unreasonably high energy bills? Today we are sharing a couple reasons that could be the culprit of your bills.
Does your energy bill seem like it keeps skyrocketing every month? Your HVAC system may hold the answer. A broken or poorly maintained Maitland HVAC system could raise your energy bill up to 15% more than a year than one that is working correctly. Here are some things that may be contributing to your excessively high energy bill.
Clogged Air Filter
A clogged air filter can go undetected and cost you hundreds per year if not taken care of. You may think that only changing your air filter once a month will do the trick, but the fact of the matter is that this is not always enough.
When your HVAC system’s filter is clogged, the system has to work several times as hard as it normally would to cool your home properly. According to the Department of Energy, cleaning your ducts and changing your air filters regularly can lower your energy consumption by 5% to 15%. Making sure change the filter and clean the actual ducts once a month ensures that your HVAC system is working at its most efficient capacity.
Another high energy bill culprit is dirty coils. Two primary coils are part of your home’s HVAC unit, the condenser coil, and the evaporator coil. The location of the condenser coil is in the external air conditioning condenser, and the evaporator coil is in the indoor unit.
These coils’ primary functions are to raise or lower the temperature of the coolant gas or liquid that controls the temperature in your home. Organic matter from your home can build upon these coils over time if not properly maintained. The dirt that builds on these coils can insulate them and keep them from heating or cool the air that passes through the vents correctly
If these coils are not clean, they are significantly less energy efficient, causing your energy bill to skyrocket.
If you suspect that these reasons are raising your energy bill make sure you book an appointment with our Maitland HVAC System Specialists so they can ensure that your unit is working efficiently.
